WHERE IT STARTED
Where It Started
GRC Construction was established in April 1988 in Kingsport, Tennessee, alongside its affiliate CainRashWest Architects. Founded by Hiram Rash, Luther Cain, and Bill Beuris, the company was built on a simple idea—bring design and construction together to better serve clients.
Working out of the original office on Wexler Street, the early team took on projects across East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, building a reputation through hands-on leadership, strong relationships, and pride in the work. From day one, it was never just about construction—it was about people working together to get things done the right way.
LAYING THE GROUNDWORK
It All Begins Here
As the company gained momentum, so did its need for space and structure. By 1990, construction began on a new office building—an early sign of growth and long-term commitment to the region.
This era was defined by a small but dedicated team, wearing multiple hats and building the company from the ground up. From the field crews to leadership, everyone played a role in shaping the culture that still exists today—hands-on, hardworking, and deeply invested in each project.
GROWING INTO OURSELVES
It All Begins Here
Through the early 1990s, GRC continued to grow its capabilities and identity. The company expanded across a wide range of project types—from medical and office to retail and industrial—while refining its approach to design-build services.
Marketing efforts evolved, project experience deepened, and the team continued to grow. What remained constant was a commitment to delivering quality work and building lasting relationships with clients and partners.
A DECADE OF PROGRESS
It All Begins Here
By 1998, GRC had grown into a more structured and established organization. Dedicated roles in estimating, project management, safety, and marketing reflected a company that was evolving while staying true to its roots.
With new branding and a growing portfolio, GRC continued to build across a variety of industries—delivering projects that met and exceeded expectations. The first decade proved that the foundation was strong and built to last.
BUILT ON RELATIONSHIPS
At 20 years, GRC’s success was defined by the relationships it had built—both inside the company and throughout the community. Employees, clients, and partners all played a role in shaping the company’s reputation for reliability and integrity.
As the company continued to grow, it remained focused on personalized service, strong communication, and delivering value through experience and teamwork. The milestone was not just about time—it was about the people who made it possible.
A LASTING IMPACT
Reaching 25 years marked a significant moment in GRC’s history. With projects spanning medical, educational, industrial, and commercial sectors, the company had firmly established itself across the region.
Behind every project was a team of skilled craftsmen, project managers, and superintendents working together to deliver quality results. The company’s continued success reflected not only experience but a commitment to doing right by clients and communities.
30 YEARS TOGETHER
Thirty years in business was a celebration of the people who made it possible. Many team members had spent decades with the company, contributing to a culture built on trust, loyalty, and shared success.
To mark the milestone, the team traveled together to The Greenbrier—taking time to reflect, connect, and celebrate everything that had been built over the years. It was a reminder that while projects define what GRC does, people define who GRC is.
35 YEARS AND LOOKING AHEAD
The 35-year milestone reflects decades of growth, strong partnerships, and meaningful contributions to the community. As part of the celebration, the team gathered at The Grove Park Inn, continuing a tradition of recognizing milestones through shared experiences and time together. With a proven foundation and a forward-looking mindset, the company remains focused on innovation, continued relationships, and shaping the future of design and construction.
LEGACY
GRC has always been built on the strength of its people. From leadership to field crews, the company has been shaped by individuals who are deeply committed to their work and to each other.
Employee loyalty has never been just a value—it has been a defining characteristic. Those who spent their careers building GRC left a lasting impact, not only through the structures they helped create, but through the culture they built along the way.
That legacy continues today through a team of experienced project managers, superintendents, and craftsmen who carry forward the same pride, integrity, and dedication.
WHAT’S NEXT
With decades of experience behind it, GRC looks ahead with the same mindset it started with—focused on people, quality, and doing the job right.
As the industry evolves, the company continues to invest in technology, safety, and innovation, while staying true to its core values. The next chapter will be built the same way the first was—through strong relationships, dedicated teams, and a commitment to delivering for the communities it serves.
